Hobbyzone Delta Ray
This marvelous bird is made by Hobbyzone and was released last year, and with its wealth of trainer friendly features, including the ground-breaking SAFE system, this plane is excellent for beginners. The Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope (SAFE) system prohibits extreme throws in the first two modes which you can move through in flight via the three toggle auxiliary switch on the included transmitter. Beginner mode is restrictive and the only mode that has gyros to auto balance you. This is very helpful for learning orientation. Intermediate mode has no gyro correction and instead relies on you to right the plane. Throws are still restricted. Advanced mode has no throw restriction and is great for basic aerobatics (loops, rolls, inverted). The "Panic Button" is a great addition that will level out the plane at the push of a button. This feature is operable through all three modes. Another great feature is the included Spektrum DX4e transmitter. Once you are ready to move up from a Delta Ray, you just have to get another aircraft that can bind with a Spektrum transmitter, or a Spektrum receiver and a bind-n-fly plane/scratch built aircraft. The Delta Ray is an elevon controlled plane, so it is bank and yank, but it also has yaw control from the two engines that can create differential thrust. It handles fine on the ground, and despite what others have said it turns fine on the ground using just the differential. All in all this is a great first step for a beginner aircraft and if you try it you couldn't imagine learning on anything else. This aircraft is privately owned and maintained.
